There are only a few prepositions that are used with months.

| Im
Januar ist es kalt. = In January it is cold. |
|
| Ab
Juni ist er in Italien. = From June on he is in Italy. |
|
| Vor Juli
kann ich mich nicht darum kümmern. = Before July I cannot take care of this. |

| Für
Juli hab ich noch nichts geplant. = For July I have not planned anything yet. |
|
Often one has to give a precise date:
| I go to Italy on June 5th, 2004. | |
| Ich fahre am fünften Juni zweitausendundvier nach Italien. |
|
Comparing the two systems the German order is first the day then the month, in English it is the other way around. The ordinals in German are marked with a point.
