33.8 Difference between perfect and present participle


As we have seen the participles (the present participle as well as the perfect participle) functions in German the same way as in English. That means that when starting to use them you will make it intuitively right. There is no use in thinking too much about this issue. Still, if you are ever asked this question you could answer after reading the following few chapters. When looking at the difference we first have to make two categories in this: intransitive verbs (= do not need an object, e.g. to sleep, to dissolve) and transitive verbs (= do need an object, e.g. to give, to send). First, let's have a look at the intransitive verbs.
